Read on to learn more about this magical stone!

What is Dendritic Agate?

Dendritic Agate is typically a primarily white stone with inclusions called ‘dendrites’ that resemble tree branches, ferns, or bolts of lightning. It is also known as the "Stone of Plentitude" because it promotes personal growth and abundance.

The inclusions or "Dendrites" can range in color from black to gray to brown.

Because it is not banded, Dendritic Agate is not technically an "Agate". It should not be confused with Dendritic Opal, which is a different type of stone with different metaphysical properties.

Dendritic Agate is found all over the world, but the most common places are Brazil, India, and the United States.

Dendritic Agate Meaning

Dendritic Agate gets its name from the black inclusions in the stones called dendrites. This is the Greek word for tree-like. People who discovered this stone thought that the black inclusions looked like tree branches, so that’s how it got its name!

Dendritic Agate is known for Growth, Stability, and Plentitude.

In some cases, Dendritic Agate is also known as Tree Agate. However, most people are referencing an entirely different stone when referencing "Tree Agate".

Scientific Properties & Facts

Dendritic Agate is found all over the world, but most of it comes from Brazil, India, and the United States.

Although it is called an agate, scientifically it does not count as one because it does not have bands. It is lumped in with the agates because it has a similar crystalline structure.

Dendritic Agate is made of microcrystalline Quartz. Sometimes water containing Manganese and Iron oxides finds its way into the crystal structure. The Manganese and Iron oxides leave behind the black inclusions we see in Dendritic Agate.

Dendritic Agate is one of the youngest agates since it is 65-90 million years old. The majority of banded agates are around 200 million years old.

Dendritic Agate is a 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale.

What is the difference between Dendritic Agate and Dendritic Opal?
