BOTANICAL ORIGINS & SOURCING:

Yerba Santa is an evergreen shrub native to the dry slopes and chaparral of California and Oregon, where it grows in some of the most sun-scorched ground the region has. Its long, narrow leaves are coated in a natural resin that makes them tacky to the touch and gives the dried herb its distinctive sweet, balsamic aroma. That resin is why the smoke is warmer and rounder than the sharp, camphorous smoke of a sage bundle.

What makes this plant remarkable is what it does after a fire. Yerba Santa survives underground through a network of rhizomes, and it is one of the very first plants to return to a burned hillside, sending up new green growth while the ground around it is still bare. 4. Extinguish safely: Press the lit end into a heat-safe bowl (like an Abalone shell or ceramic dish) until it is fully out. The bundle can be relit and used again many times.
