Uruguayan Black Amethyst Cluster on Stand No.119
Our Uruguayan Black Amethyst Cluster No.119 is a one of a kind display specimen standing 11 inches tall on a custom iron stand, ready to display the day it arrives. Black Amethyst is one of the most protective and grounding varieties of Amethyst, carrying inclusions of Hematite and other dark minerals that anchor Amethyst's spiritual clarity into something steadier, and a cluster this size holds a room rather than a hand. It radiates in every direction at once rather than in a single line the way a tower or point does, which is why pieces like this are chosen as the anchor of an altar, a meditation space, a bedroom, or an entryway. What makes No.119 genuinely rare are the pale blue-green chalcedony formations growing across the druzy face, a hallmark of the Artigas geodes that cannot be predicted or reproduced. The crystal is so deeply saturated it reads nearly black until light catches it and the whole face comes alive in deep violet and plum. This is an individual listing: the piece in the photos is the exact piece you will receive, stand included.

Geology & Composition: Black Amethyst is a variety of quartz, made of silicon dioxide, that grows as clusters of small, tightly packed crystal points inside volcanic geodes. These geodes began forming roughly 130 million years ago, when enormous lava flows spread across South America as the ancient supercontinent Gondwana broke apart. As the lava cooled, gas bubbles left hollow pockets in the basalt rock. Over millions of years, mineral-rich water seeped into those cavities and slowly deposited silica, building up crystal by crystal into the sparkling druzy linings we see today. Trace amounts of iron give Amethyst its color, and in Black Amethyst that coloring is so concentrated, often with added iron minerals like hematite, that the crystals appear deep purple to nearly black.
Our Black Amethyst comes from Uruguay, home to some of the finest Amethyst geodes in the world. Most Uruguayan Amethyst is mined in the northern department of Artigas, where the basalt flows of the Paraná Basin hold geodes known for their intense, saturated color and short, dense crystal points. Uruguayan material is especially prized among collectors because it tends to be darker and richer than Amethyst from many other localities, which makes it an ideal source for this striking dark variety.
The pale blue-green chalcedony on this cluster is a genuine Artigas signature. Chalcedony is quartz too, the same silicon dioxide as the Amethyst beneath it, but microcrystalline rather than crystalline, which is why it forms in smooth rounded mounds instead of pointed crystals. Late in the geode's formation, silica-rich fluids moved through the cavity and deposited it directly over the existing Amethyst, often tinted green by traces of celadonite. These formations cannot be predicted or reproduced, and they are exactly the kind of feature that makes one geode worth more than another of the same size.
This piece is natural and one of a kind, with its own pattern of glittering druzy points and variations in tone. Black Amethyst has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, making it durable enough for display, though the delicate crystal points can chip if knocked. Like all Amethyst, it can fade with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, so we recommend displaying it out of bright, direct sun to keep its deep color.
METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES:
- Intentions: Protection, Intuition, Grounding
- Chakra: Crown, Third Eye, Root
- Zodiac: Aquarius, Pisces, & Virgo
- Elements: Air, Water
Metaphysical Properties of Black Amethyst: Black Amethyst is a powerful stone of Protection and grounded spirituality. Its deep, dark energy carries all the calming, intuitive qualities Amethyst is loved for, anchored by a strong grounding force that helps you stay steady and centered as you explore your spiritual path. It is a wonderful companion for shadow work, inner reflection, and releasing what no longer serves you, creating a safe, protected space for transformation. What sets it apart from ordinary Amethyst is that it works at both ends at once. It stimulates the Crown and opens the Third Eye, expanding Intuition and spiritual awareness, while staying firmly connected to the Root. That combination is the whole point: your intuition can reach upward without leaving you scattered, which is exactly what Grounding means in practice.
Carried on the Elements of Air and Water, its energy moves and clarifies rather than sitting still. It encourages peace, clarity, and a calm sense of inner strength, and it brings a quiet, protective presence to meditation and evening practice. A cluster this size works differently from a stone you carry. Rather than traveling with you, it holds a space, radiating in every direction at once from wherever you set it. Placed in a bedroom, meditation space, office, or entryway, it works continuously as a protective and settling presence in the room, and it is substantial enough to anchor an altar or a shelf on its own.
About the Crown Chakra: The Crown Chakra, also known as the Sahasrara, is located on the top of your head. A balanced Crown Chakra will allow you to activate and channel your wisdom. It is closely related to your spirituality, and it is thought by many to connect you to the divine or any higher level of consciousness. An unbalanced Crown Chakra might make you feel disconnected or make it difficult to have clear thoughts. It connects your physical body to the spiritual realm and the universe. The Crown Chakra is associated with enlightenment and bliss.
About the Third Eye Chakra: The Third Eye Chakra, also known as the Ajna or Brow Chakra, is located on the forehead. It is associated with wisdom and spirituality. It takes the ability of sight past just what our eyes are able to do, allowing us to be in contact with higher metaphysical and spiritual paths. The Third Eye Chakra allows you to see yourself and others clearly. It connects you with your inner purpose and feelings, and opens you to inspiration and spiritual enlightenment.
About the Root Chakra: The Root Chakra, also known as the Muladhara, is located at the base of the spine. It is the foundation of the chakra system and is associated with feelings of safety, security, and stability. A balanced Root Chakra helps you feel grounded, supported, and connected to the earth. An unbalanced Root Chakra might leave you feeling unsettled or ungrounded. When it is balanced, it provides the steady foundation that allows the higher chakras to open with confidence and ease.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CLUSTER: Dust gently with a soft dry brush or a can of compressed air rather than a cloth, which can catch on the druzy points. Avoid water, since moisture can collect between crystals and sit there, and avoid household cleaners entirely. Keep the piece out of prolonged direct sunlight, as amethyst will fade over time with sustained UV exposure. The calcite formations are considerably softer than the surrounding quartz, so handle around them rather than on them. Lift the piece by its base rather than by the stand.
