PRODUCT DETAILS:This listing is for a single (1) Tanzanite Tumbled Stone. Please note that these are stock photos of a few of the healing crystal tumbled stones that we have available. These are natural Crystals & Gemstones, so each stone will be unique and have variations in natural characteristics such as Size, Shape, Inclusions, and Color. Tumbled Tanzanite varies considerably in tone, from pale lavender-gray through soft periwinkle to deeper violet-blue, and most pieces show white or lighter veining, cloudy zones, and natural inclusions. These are tumbled stones rather than gem-grade material, so expect the soft, translucent-to-opaque look shown in the photos rather than the transparent deep blue of faceted tanzanite jewelry.

A NOTE ON TANZANITE AND HEAT: Most Tanzanite on the market, including ours, has been heat treated. In the ground the great majority of this material is brownish or greenish zoisite, and gentle heating is what brings out the blue and violet it is known for. The process has been standard in the trade since Tanzanite was first discovered and is permanent, with no dyes or coatings involved. Naturally blue Tanzanite does occur but is genuinely rare and priced accordingly. We tell you because you should know exactly what you are holding, and because heat-treated Tanzanite is the material the entire tradition around this stone has been built on.

Geology & Composition: Tanzanite is the blue-violet variety of zoisite, a calcium aluminum silicate, and its color comes from trace amounts of vanadium caught in the crystal structure. What makes it extraordinary is where it comes from. Tanzanite is found in one place on earth: the Merelani Hills in the Manyara Region of northern Tanzania, in the foothills near Mount Kilimanjaro, across a deposit only a few miles wide. No other commercially significant source has ever been found anywhere in the world. The geology behind it is a genuine accident. Roughly 585 million years ago, tectonic activity along what is now East Africa created a very specific combination of heat, pressure, and chemistry, including the vanadium that gives the stone its color. Geologists have described the odds of that combination occurring as vanishingly small, which is why one small strip of Tanzanian hillside holds the entire world supply. Tanzanite is also strongly pleochroic, meaning it shows different colors depending on the angle you view it from. A single crystal can appear blue, violet, and burgundy from three different directions, and cutters orient gem material deliberately to bring out the blue. In tumbled form you can sometimes catch that shift by turning a stone slowly in the light. It was first discovered in 1967 and named Tanzanite by Tiffany & Co. the following year, after the country that is its only home. At a Mohs hardness of 6 to 7 it is reasonably hard, but it has perfect cleavage in one direction, meaning it can split cleanly along an internal plane if knocked hard. Handle it more gently than its hardness suggests and store it apart from harder stones.

  • Chakra: Crown, Third Eye
  • Zodiac: Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius
  • Elements: Air

Metaphysical Properties of Tanzanite: Tanzanite is a stone of compassion that connects the heart and the mind. It asks you to be kind to other people and, more importantly, to be kind to yourself. Tanzanite helps you fully recognize your own thoughts, hopes, and dreams, and that recognition is what brings joy and pleasure into a life. It works by aligning the Third Eye and the Crown, helping you look at your own thoughts and feelings with wisdom rather than judgment. Through the Third Eye it enhances Intuition, psychic ability, and clairvoyance, deepening your connection to higher realms and to your own inner knowing. Through the Crown it facilitates spiritual awakening and transformation, opening the way to higher consciousness and offering a centered way of attuning to your Spirituality. Many people work with it to connect to their inner wisdom and their spirit guides, for the real guidance and discernment that connection brings.

Its gift for Communication comes from the Element of Air. Tanzanite clears the clutter so your thinking is sharp and your words come easily, which is what makes it such a steady support for authentic self-expression and the ability to say what you actually think and feel. Plenty of stones help you understand something; this is the one associated with being able to say it out loud. Above all, Tanzanite encourages compassion for yourself first, which is the harder half of compassion. Sit with it when your head is too loud to hear what your heart already knows.

About the Crown Chakra: The Crown Chakra, also known as the Sahasrara, is located on the top of your head. A balanced Crown Chakra will allow you to activate and channel your wisdom. It is closely related to your spirituality, and it is thought by many to connect you to the divine or any higher level of consciousness. An unbalanced Crown Chakra might make you feel disconnected or make it difficult to have clear thoughts. It connects your physical body to the spiritual realm and the universe. The Crown Chakra is associated with enlightenment and bliss.

About the Third Eye Chakra: The Third Eye Chakra, also known as the Anja or Brow Chakra, is located on the forehead. It is associated with wisdom and spirituality. It takes the ability of sight past just what our eyes are able to do, allowing us to be in contact with higher metaphysical and spiritual paths. The Third Eye Chakra allows you to see yourself and others clearly. It connects you with your inner purpose and feelings, and opens you to inspiration and spiritual enlightenment.

HOW TO USE TANZANITE:

  • Hold it before a conversation you have been putting off. Sit with it for a few minutes and let your thinking settle before you have to find the words, whether that is a difficult talk, a boundary you need to set, or something you have been meaning to say for weeks.
  • Keep one where you write. Tanzanite is associated with clear thinking and easy words, which makes it a natural companion for journaling, letter writing, or any work where the task is getting what is inside you onto a page.
  • Use it in meditation. Hold it or rest it near the Third Eye while you sit. Its reputation for quieting an overactive mind makes it particularly suited to meditation that keeps getting interrupted by your own thoughts.
  • Carry one when you need to hear yourself. A small stone in a pocket or bag is a quiet reminder to check in with what you actually think, rather than what the room expects.
  • Work with it for dreams and intuitive practice. Tanzanite’s connection to the Third Eye and Crown makes it a favorite for dreamwork, divination, and any practice aimed at deepening intuition.
  • Place it in a crystal grid for clarity or spiritual connection. It pairs naturally with Clear Quartz at the center, and works well alongside other high-chakra stones.
  • Set one somewhere you practice self-compassion. Tanzanite’s core lesson is being kind to yourself first, so a stone kept wherever you tend to be hardest on yourself is a small daily reminder.
  • Cleanse it gently. Tanzanite has perfect cleavage and should be handled more carefully than its hardness suggests. Cleanse it with sound, smoke, or moonlight, or set it on a Selenite plate overnight. Avoid water, salt, and prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade the color over time.
