Nephrite Jade Heart - Polished Stone Heart
Jade has been the most treasured stone on earth for longer than almost any other, carved into ritual objects and heirlooms across China, New Zealand, and Mesoamerica for thousands of years, and it has always meant roughly the same thing: prosperity, protection, and a life lived well. Our Nephrite Jade Hearts come from Pakistan and are polished to a deep glossy finish that brings out the stone's mottled greens, from soft sage and cream through to rich forest tones, with every heart carrying its own pattern of swirls and veining. The heart shape suits this stone particularly well, since Nephrite works entirely through the Heart Chakra. It fits the palm, warms quickly to the touch, and gives your thumb something to move across during meditation or a long phone call. Whether you are keeping it on a desk, carrying it as a talisman for good fortune, or giving it as a gift, this is a stone with genuine weight behind it.

Geology & Composition: Here is something most people do not know about jade: it is not one stone, it is two. For most of history, everything green and carveable was simply called jade. Then in 1863 a French mineralogist named Alexis Damour showed that the name actually covered two completely different minerals, Nephrite and Jadeite. They look alike, but chemically they have almost nothing in common. Both are still correctly called jade today.
Nephrite is the older of the two in human hands, and it is the one you are holding here. Its color comes down to iron. More iron makes a deeper green, and very little iron produces the pale creams and near-whites that Chinese carvers have prized above all other jade for centuries. That is why almost every piece is mottled rather than a single flat color, since the iron is never evenly distributed through the stone.
The remarkable thing about Nephrite is how hard it is to break. Hardness and toughness are two different things: hardness is resistance to scratching, toughness is resistance to breaking. Nephrite scratches fairly easily, but it is built from countless microscopic fibers matted and locked together, more like felt than like a stack of plates. There is no easy plane for a crack to follow. That makes it one of the toughest natural materials on earth, and it is why Neolithic cultures were shaping it into axes and tools thousands of years before anyone thought to make it into jewelry.
Nephrite forms in some of the most dramatic geology on the planet, in the zones where continents collide. Pakistan's deposits sit in the Himalayan collision belt, where the Indian and Eurasian plates came together and closed an ancient ocean roughly 50 million years ago, creating exactly the conditions nephrite needs to form. The working mines are in the Mohmand and Bajaur districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in the country's northwest. In other words, the same event that pushed up the Himalayas is what made this stone!

Nephrite Jade Meaning and Properties: Jade is the stone of Prosperity, and it has held that reputation across more cultures and more centuries than almost any other stone. It is traditionally considered a powerful attractor of good fortune, abundance, and opportunity, though its particular quality is that it works steadily rather than suddenly. Jade is not the stone of the lucky windfall. It is the stone of the life that accumulates well.
It works entirely through the Heart Chakra, the center of love, compassion, and connection, which is why the heart shape suits it so naturally. Jade opens and soothes that center, releasing what has grown heavy there and restoring Harmony to relationships and to your own emotional life. It is deeply calming, encouraging a settled and generous state of mind, and it is often turned to during periods of difficulty for the way it steadies rather than pushes.
Its gift for Wisdom is the quality that distinguishes it. Jade is associated with clear judgment, self-sufficiency, and the ability to see a situation for what it actually is. It encourages you to release self-imposed limitations and act from your own understanding rather than from what you have absorbed from others. Carried on the Element of Earth, its energy is grounding and durable, a good match for a stone whose defining physical property is that it does not break easily.
Jade is also considered a strong protective stone, and it has been given as a gift between generations for thousands of years as a symbol of enduring good fortune. Keep one in a pocket or bag as a steady companion for prosperity, place it on a desk or in a workspace where abundance is the intention, hold it during meditation to open and settle the heart, or set it in the wealth corner of a home. Given as a gift, a Jade heart carries a meaning that needs no explaining.
