Geology & Composition: Larimar is an incredibly rare blue variety of the mineral Pectolite. What makes this stone truly special is its origin; it is found in only one square kilometer in the world, in the remote mountains of the Dominican Republic. It formed millions of years ago when volcanic gases pushed mineral-saturated fluids into cavities within basaltic lava. While common Pectolite is found in many places and is typically grey or white, Larimar’s signature Caribbean-blue color is the result of copper substituting for calcium in the mineral’s chemical structure. These Grade AAA slabs showcase the most desirable "oceanic" patterns—where white fibrous inclusions interweave with deep blues to mimic sunlight reflecting off the sea. These patterns are a direct record of the complex crystallization process that occurred deep within ancient volcanic vents.
