Large Selenite Bowl (~9.5")

Cleansing Protection Healing

There is a particular kind of satisfaction in giving your crystals a home. Our Large Selenite Bowl is nearly ten inches across, wide enough to hold an entire collection at once, and it is the piece people tend to buy when they are finally done keeping their stones in a drawer. Hand carved in Morocco from a single piece of natural Selenite, each bowl catches light along its own soft ripples of fibrous banding. Selenite is the stone most associated with clearing, and it is famously self-cleansing, which is why a bowl like this is the practical centerpiece of so many crystal collections. Set your tumbled stones, jewelry, or crystal points inside overnight and let the bowl do the work. It is a functional tool, a display piece, and a genuinely striking object on a table or altar all at once.

PRODUCT DETAILS: This listing is for a single (1) Large Selenite Bowl (~9.5"). Please note that these are stock photos of a few of the pieces that we have available. These are natural Crystals & Gemstones, so each stone will be unique and have variations in natural characteristics such as Size, Shape, Inclusions, and Color. Because each bowl is carved from a different section of natural gypsum, the banding, translucency, and depth of color will vary. Some bowls are bright and evenly white, while others carry warm peach or honey shading through the base. The crystals shown in some photos are not included, and are pictured only to show the bowl in use.

  • Crystal Mineral(s): Selenite (Also Known as: Satin Spar, Gypsum)
  • Origin: Morocco
  • Size (Approximate): 9.5"
  • Shape: Round
  • Surface: Polished
  • Mohs Hardness: 2

Geology & Composition: Selenite is a variety of gypsum, a hydrated calcium sulfate with the formula CaSO₄·2H₂O. That water is not moisture on the surface, it is built into the crystal structure itself, and it explains nearly everything about how this stone behaves. Gypsum forms in evaporite settings, which are basins where mineral-rich water slowly evaporated and left its dissolved calcium sulfate behind. Ancient shallow seas, salt flats, and inland lagoons all produce it. As those deposits were buried and compressed, groundwater moving through fractures in the rock deposited gypsum in long parallel fibers, growing seam by seam across the opening. That fibrous growth is what gives this material its silky sheen and the soft directional ripples you can see running across every bowl. Turn one in the light and the shimmer moves with it, the same way it does across a piece of silk.

Morocco has become the world's primary source for carved gypsum of this kind, with material drawn from the country's arid evaporite beds and worked in local cutting shops. A bowl this size is more impressive than it may look, because it has to be carved from one clean, unbroken block, and at a Mohs hardness of 2, gypsum is soft enough to be marked with a fingernail. That softness is what makes it carvable at all, and also why every piece requires a careful hand.

PLEASE NOTE: Selenite is form of gypsum which is a soft & porous mineral. Therefore, it is VERY IMPORTANT to keep your Selenite dry. Selenite will almost always have some form of chips, nicks, flaking, inclusions and other imperfections. Drilled holes, Etchings, or engravings may also not be perfectly centered or straight. As you use your selenite for cleansing, scratches and chips will be unavoidable, but the markings make each piece special and uniquely yours!

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES:

  • Intentions: Cleansing, Protection, Guidance
  • Chakra: Third Eye, Crown
  • Zodiac: Taurus
  • Elements: Air

Selenite Meaning and Properties: Selenite is the ultimate cleanser, and the reason it holds that reputation is simple: it is one of the only stones that never needs cleansing itself. It clears and it keeps clearing, dissolving stagnant and heavy energy from a person, an object, or an entire room, which makes Cleansing the intention that everything else about this stone follows from. It works through the upper centers, the Third Eye and the Crown, which is where its gift for Guidance comes in. Governed by the Element of Air, its energy is light, moving, and clarifying rather than heavy or grounding. It lifts the fog off a cluttered mind and makes room for insight to arrive on its own. Selenite is a longtime favorite for meditation, dreamwork, and any practice where you are trying to hear something quieter than your own noise. It also brings a calm, settled quality to a space, encouraging peaceful sleep and softer dreams, and it works as a Protective presence, holding a clean energetic boundary around wherever it sits.

In bowl form, all of that becomes something you can actually use. Selenite magnifies the energy of any stone placed on or near it and cleanses that stone at the same time, so a bowl this size turns into a working charging station for an entire collection. Fill it at the end of the day and let everything reset overnight. Keep it by the door for keys and jewelry so that what you carry gets cleared each time you come home. Or leave it out simply because a large piece of luminous white stone changes the feeling of a room, which it will, whether or not there is anything in it.
