Geology & Composition: Blue Rose Quartz is a masterclass in optical physics and one of the most significant recent discoveries from the Tsaramanga Mine in the Betafo District of Madagascar. Geologically, it is a macrocrystalline quartz that formed in a high-temperature pegmatite environment (likely between 400°C and 700°C). While standard Rose Quartz is colored by microscopic inclusions of a pink borosilicate mineral, researchers have identified these specific nanofibers as a unique mineral related to dumortierite, playfully dubbed "dididumortierite."

What sets the Blue Rose variety apart is a rare "tug-of-war" between two different coloring mechanisms. It contains both the classic pink borosilicate fibers and a specific concentration of titanium and iron that facilitates an intervalence charge transfer the same chemical exchange that gives blue sapphire its color. However, the "blue" you see isn't just pigment; it is structural color. These internal fibers are so incredibly fine (nanofibers) that they cause Rayleigh scattering. When light hits the stone, these particles scatter the shorter blue wavelengths back to your eye, creating that misty, lavender-blue "glow."
